Amanda, a single mother of two, was facing the possibility of losing her family’s home after unexpected debt repayments were automatically withdrawn from her account. The withdrawals left her unable to pay $705 rent, and Regina Housing issued an eviction warning.
With her family’s housing at immediate risk, funding from the Emergent Women and Children’s Fund was used to cover the $705 in rental arrears. The intervention prevented the eviction, allowing Amanda and her children to remain in their home and maintain their connections to school, community, and existing support networks.
When surveyed afterward, Amanda said her situation was “much better.” She identified stable housing for herself and her children as the most significant outcome of support and described herself as “a success story.”
