Wills & Planned Giving ~
What is Planned Giving?
There’s a good chance you already give to charity. Maybe you give monthly or annually to a cause that is meaningful to you. Those donations help make immediate impact.
Many people also have a strategy in place to give to a charity, cause, or community at a future date. The future gift is Planned Giving.
In its simplest terms, it’s a plan to give a gift to an organization.
Some examples of Planned Giving are:
- donating life insurance,
- donating publicly traded securities or stocks
- or leaving a gift in your Will.
Those are just some of the options that exist, and your planned gift often depends on when, what, and how you want to give. Some plans are as easy as including a registered charity and dollar amount or percentage in your Will; others take more time and advice from your trusted financial and legal professionals. There are also different tax benefits for different types of donations.
Gifts in Wills
Leaving a gift in your Will is one of the most common forms of gift planning, so we wanted to highlight it here.
A gift in your Will might be a sum of money, a specific asset (like farmland or stocks), or a portion of your estate to be donated to the Saskatchewan Community Foundation or an existing fund at the Community Foundation. It can be as simple as putting a few lines in your Will including a registered charitable number, fund name if applicable, and the amount you’d like to give. This is a great option and while we’re happy to receive your donation directly, we’d love the opportunity to chat with you and your trusted advisors further. We can talk about your donation and help find the best giving option that suits your giving goals.

Sample 2: For a new Legacy Fund created upon death
To give ($______ / ______ % / the residue) of my estate to Saskatchewan Community Foundation, (Charitable Registration Number 890271448 RR0001) to establish a permanent fund known as the ______________________________________ Fund, the income of which shall be distributed to ______________________________________.
