Vision

New Dance Horizons is dedicated to the ever-changing expressions of contemporary dance. As Saskatchewan’s longest-standing professional contemporary dance organization focusing on the creation, production and presentation of contemporary dance, New Dance Horizons plays a distinctive and integral role in developing and strengthening the dance community within Regina and the province.

Vision

New Dance Horizons (NDH) is a Regina-based not-for-profit organization that since 1986, has presented local and internationally acclaimed dance shows, produced original works, and organized activities that engage both the dance community and the general public.

NDH plays a distinctive and integral role in developing and strengthening the dance community in Saskatchewan. In addition to performance presentation, NDH offers courses, workshops and lectures with guest artists and community events. Thanks to the bold artistic vision and community engagement of acclaimed Canadian artist and co-founder Robin Poitras, NDH has become nationally recognized as a champion of creative dance. NDH offers adventurous and ever-changing dance encounters for everyone.

New Dance Horizons programming consists of four major components:

1

PERFORMANCE PRESENTATION

Performance presentation brings a carefully curated program of Canadian dance and performance work to Saskatchewan each season in three to five main stage productions following a Seasonal Journeying: FALL into Dance/Dance into Fall; WINTER Dance; SPRING into Dance; SUMMER Works.

2

LEARNING & TEACHING

NDH offers unique professional development opportunities for the dance and artistic community, as well as community engagement activities. Learning & Teaching activities involve workshops and lectures by local and visiting artists, residencies, mentorships, dance technique and somatic classes in an effort to deepen the impact of dance and movement-based art within the dance community and general public.

3

CREATION, PRODUCTION & TOURING

Rouge-gorge, is the home of NDH Artistic Director Robin Poitras’ own creative works in dance and performance art and renowned visual artist Edward Poitras. Intense collaboration with artists in dance, theatre, visual, music, and performance art is a mark of Robin’s creative practice, and is the heart of her artistic vision for NDH. Robin’s creative practice is intimately tied to the community through participatory community performances and other creative outreach activities.

4

OUTREACH & AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT

NDH creates a network for the community to come together and interact by fostering spaces where all are welcome to participate in a diverse range of artistic experiences. NDH invites audiences to contribute to activities and discussions that cultivate growth and go beyond boundaries.
