Hannah’s Hope for Healing Legacy Fund was created to honour Hannah Benesh’s life, strength, and compassion. Hannah was 26 when she died, but her story is defined by far more than her passing. She lived with ADHD, major depressive disorder, and anxiety, and she faced these challenges with honesty and courage. From the time of her first suicide attempt at age 20, Hannah chose to speak openly about her mental health—not for sympathy, but to help others understand the reality of living with these conditions.
A Life of Determination and Heart
Hannah accomplished so much despite the obstacles she faced. She was an honour roll student, a talented multisport athlete, and a dedicated nurse. After sustaining an acquired brain injury, she persevered to complete her Bachelor of Nursing, demonstrating the resilience that defined her life.
As a nurse, Hannah was known for her deep compassion. She cared for older patients with the same tenderness she showed her own grandmother, who lovingly called her “my angel.” Hannah often stayed past her shift to support patients and visited them with her beloved dog, Hemi.
A Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Friend
Hannah was a cherished daughter, sister, aunt, godmother, cousin, teammate, and friend. She loved family meals, travelling, playing games, spending time at the dog park with Hemi, and staying active in sports like ringette and volleyball. She worked hard, studied hard, and continued to show up for the people she loved.
