Farmland Legacies believes that there is a vital and interconnected relationship between healthy land, healthy farms, healthy food, and healthy people. Each depends on the other. When farmland is cared for using regenerative agricultural practices, the soil becomes healthier, ecosystems are strengthened, and farms become more sustainable and resilient for future generations. These practices not only protect the environment, but also help build stronger rural communities and a more stable agricultural system.
Healthy soil produces healthier food. Research continues to demonstrate that crops and livestock raised in nutrient-rich, biologically active soils can provide greater nutritional value. Farmland Legacies believes this connection matters deeply, especially for those in our society who struggle to access nutritious food. Good food does more than satisfy hunger; it provides the nourishment, energy, and dignity people need to improve their circumstances and build healthier lives for themselves and their families.
This vision is the foundation of Farmland Legacies’ Harvest for Hunger Program. Through this initiative, locally and sustainably produced food is provided to charities and organizations serving disadvantaged populations across Saskatchewan. Since the program began, more than 620,000 servings of high-quality protein sources, including beef and lentils, have been distributed to food banks, shelters, soup kitchens, and community organizations throughout the province.
Demand on these organizations continues to grow. Unfortunately, many are increasingly forced to rely on inexpensive, heavily processed, and less nutritious food options simply to meet the overwhelming need. The Harvest for Hunger Program seeks to provide something better – food that is nutritious, locally produced, and raised with care for both people and the land. In doing so, the program not only helps address food insecurity, but also restores a sense of dignity and pride for those receiving assistance.
At the same time, Harvest for Hunger supports Saskatchewan farmers who are committed to regenerative agricultural practices that improve soil health, protect water resources, enhance biodiversity, and strengthen the long-term sustainability of farming. In this way, the program creates benefits that extend far beyond a single meal. It helps foster a healthier agricultural system that serves farmers, consumers, communities, and the environment alike.

Every dollar contributed to the Farmland Legacies Endowment Fund supports this ongoing mission. These contributions help Farmland Legacies continue building a future where agriculture sustains not only the land, but also the people and communities who depend on it, ensuring that healthy land can continue to produce healthy farms, healthy food, and healthier lives for generations to come.
