What made the community foundation an exceptional workplace was its culture. It is an environment deeply dedicated to creating meaningful change, where every success is celebrated and where students are empowered to thrive. I was exposed to both the nonprofit and business worlds, gaining experience in areas such as board governance, philanthropy strategy, stakeholder management, hiring processes, and the chance to design and lead student-driven initiatives. The ability to make decisions autonomously, contribute directly to community-wide impact, and collaborate with community leaders shaped my understanding of what it means to be part of a mission-driven organization.
I remain immensely grateful to the foundation, not only for the skills I developed, but for the belief that students can meaningfully contribute to long-term community impact. I was challenged, supported, and given real responsibility that allowed me to grow far beyond what a typical student role provides. It was an honour to contribute to an organization that is so dedicated to building a stronger community, and the experience has given me a professional foundation and a standard of excellence that I will carry forward for the rest of my career.
For students seeking hands-on experience, real impact, and a workplace that genuinely invests in their development, the community foundation is the ideal place to learn and grow. I recommend this program wholeheartedly.
At the Community Foundation, you have the opportunity as a summer student to take responsibility for your work. You are empowered to take initiative and ownership of the tasks you complete and supported by a variety of resources – including a staff-student mentorship program, the surrounding student team, and regular meetings and training on the broader impact the Foundation makes in the community.
The work environment at the Community Foundation is incredibly supportive. The team is very caring and always looking for ways to create a stronger Saskatchewan. Their support, along with the opportunity to watch the Friendraiser come to life, has truly made my time as a student a standout experience.
I would absolutely recommend the summer student program at the Community Foundation. It offers a fantastic opportunity to gain practical skills, complete meaningful work, and grow both personally and professionally.
As a student turned permanent employee, the Community Foundation not only provided an environment for me to grow; they have given me the tools, confidence and support to thrive. The Summer Student Program opened so many doors for me and has challenged me to become the best version of myself. I highly recommend this program to any student out there wanting a hands-on, unique, and fulfilling work experience. You'll be able to develop meaningful and transferable skills while also building up your community, and honestly? It doesn't get any better than that.
The summer student program is truly one of the most unique, valuable, and special experiences I have ever been part of. The people, the environment, the expertise, the kindness, and the deeply community-centered values all work together to create an immensely empowering culture. The level of trust placed in students is both rare and transformative—you are fully accountable for your work and the impact it creates. It is a lot of pressure, but it is the right kind of pressure. The kind that builds confidence, resilience, and leadership. Quite literally, pressure makes diamonds—and only diamonds come out of this program.
Being part of the Community Foundation team is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that can truly change the trajectory of your career and life. Whether working on day-to-day tasks or large-scale, community-oriented projects, everything you do has a purpose. It is an absolute honour to contribute to this work and to be part of the Foundation’s legacy. I whole-heartedly recommend this program to anyone who is ready to be a part of something bigger than themselves.
