- Academic Success: Offered STEM tutoring tailored to Indigenous students to reduce achievement gaps and support course completion.
- Food Security & Nutrition: Equipped students with knowledge and resources to prepare affordable, nutritious meals while deepening cultural food practices.
- Cultural Connection: Fostered healing and reconciliation through traditional harvesting and teachings in partnership with Indigenous communities. Grounded in community consultation and Indigenous knowledge, the program offered holistic, culturally attuned supports to ensure Indigenous students thrive—academically and personally—while addressing systemic barriers such as food insecurity and achievement gaps in STEM education.
The buffalo harvest was a land-based learning experience that brought students, faculty, community members, and Elders together in a powerful act of cultural revitalization, education, and reconciliation. More than a harvest, this deeply respectful ceremony honored Indigenous traditions, fostered cross-cultural understanding, and created space for healing and connection. Students described it as “life-changing,” and it demonstrated how education can be rooted in community and culture.
