2024 Truth and Reconciliation Fund Grant Recipient— $15,000
Our Grade 11 program startup was a massive success. This program changes a life trajectory from being a school dropout that can lead to homelessness, justice intervention, social services, health, or potentially death. Not only do our students benefit from this program, but so do our families and the broader support communities. The quality of life increases for a family with functioning members who are educated and have a program to support them. We are here to help the most at-risk youth in the province and achieve data-driven results in attendance, engagement, credit attainment, accelerated learning, quantified growth, and student belonging survey data that far surpass the provincial averages.
As a parent, there is nothing more powerful than witnessing your child transform, to see them begin to believe in themselves again, to find purpose, and to feel supported. That is exactly what has happened for my daughter since enrolling in Cornwall Alternative School. Before entering the program, my daughter had been struggling for years, academically, socially, and emotionally. Her attendance was irregular at best. She often felt disconnected from her peers, unsupported in traditional school environments, and unsure of where she belonged. Since becoming a student at Cornwall, everything has changed.
