Chili for Children - Child Hunger Program

2024 Truth and Reconciliation Fund Grant Recipient— $21,778

Chili for Children (C4C) has been providing a free hot nutritious lunch to the little children (K-8) in 3 north central Regina and to the people of north central Regina. The free nutritious lunch is served to children/students three times a week and once/week to community members. The donation from the South Saskatchewan Community Ffoundation (Truth & Reconciliation) were used to purchase nutritious foods and to pay for the preparation and transportation of the food to the schools. The hot lunch program helps families with feeding their children, as many who are living in the north central region of Regina cannot afford a well-balanced meal for their growing children. The main objective is to improve the living and education of the children.

The principals and teachers are continually appreciative of C4C feeding the little children. They indicate that the children have learned to respect themselves and each other and the school property. The parents are also very thankful that their children receive a hot, nutritious meal while attending the school. There are other schools in the area that have asked if C4C could provide hot meals to their little students but because of funding, it is not possible to provide this service. The people of north central community also are very thankful that C4C provides a healthy meal to them every Thursday; these people’s income is less than needed to provide their families with healthy meals.

A quote from one school: This organization has been supporting Albert School for over 35 years. C4C generously provides our students from K-8 a hot and nutritious lunch 3 days week.  They deliver the food right to our school which serves up to 200 students each day. Albert School is located in North Central Regina.  The demographic of our area demonstrates a high need for the support from this food program.  Many families that attend our school are living at or below the poverty line, some with no food at home.  With the rising costs of food, we simply could not afford to feed all of our students without their assistance.  Our school appreciates all that C4C provides to our students and looks forward to ongoing partnership from them.
