Art Gallery of Regina Legacy Fund
The Art Gallery of Regina (AGR) Fund ensures we can continue to offer free exhibitions and public programs that engage and inspire, while supporting Saskatchewan artists and connecting our community through art experiences.
Founded in 1974, the Art Gallery of Regina (AGR) is an independent, nonprofit contemporary art gallery dedicated to making art accessible for all and championing Saskatchewan artists. The AGR was established in response to community calls for inclusion and continues to serve as a vibrant hub for artists and audiences in Regina (oskana kâ-asastêki) and beyond.
Founded as the Rosemont Art Gallery in the 1970s to support local artists and art forms excluded from mainstream institutions, the AGR’s has been guided by these same core values for over fifty years. Now known as the Art Gallery of Regina, we remain dedicated to championing contemporary art and centring Saskatchewan experiences. We invest in practices often overlooked elsewhere, from craft and textiles to experimental media and performance, ensuring a wide spectrum of art forms and voices are recognized and valued.
Every contribution—whether money, time, resources, or advocacy—helps the AGR deliver programs, realize new projects, sustain our organization, and advance our mission.
Staffed by artists and governed by a volunteer board, the AGR relies on member contributions and grants to sustain its operations. We serve the public through free, accessible programming—curated, low-barrier exhibitions, workshops, talks, and multisensory, accessible, and culturally informed approaches to learning—ensuring everyone feels welcome.
Free public exhibitions are the cornerstone of our impact. Through a research-based curatorial approach, we spark dialogue, reflect diverse perspectives, and connect people.
Our artistic vision is to put artists first and engage the community with exhibitions that:
Reveal new insights and perspectives on our shared experience of this time and place.
Arouse empathy and create understanding.
Stimulate curiosity, thought and conversation.
Reflect the diversity of our community.
Include and champion historically excluded artists and practices.
Provide opportunities for recreational, self-taught and craft artists to participate in the contemporary art world.
Are free to the public and fairly remunerate artists.
Challenge preconceived ideas of what art is and what it can be.
We go beyond being a venue for art: we help artists achieve more than they could on their own and continually seek new ways to meaningfully engage our community.
Inclusivity and accessibility shape everything we do—from self-serve sensory tools and low-sensory nights to plain English materials, audio tours, tactile experiences, accessible tours co-led by people with disabilities, and Indigenous-led events that connect exhibitions to traditional knowledge and lived experiences.
The AGR believes that building relationships with and through art is essential to the work of a contemporary art gallery. As such, we have worked to support community-engaged projects, interdisciplinary artist-led collaborations with non-artists and opportunities for artists to create artwork with community members. Profound experiences with art often occur outside gallery exhibitions, where community members can understand themselves as creators, collaborators, and storytellers who shape experiences of art. However, such ambitious projects and exhibitions can challenge the gallery’s limited staff and financial resources.
